I could not have said it better. The television industry in itself is still one of the most closed industries and if you are not an industry insider your chances of entry into the industry as a creative is very difficult.
So how do you get in? There is no set rule or standard BUT; and I say that with excitement; there is an entry point now. That point of entry is the New York Television Festival. It is where HBO, TNT, Comedy Central, FOX, A&E and many more connect with independent producers, directors, writers, talent and many more. It is the light at the end of the tunnel.
There are screenings and a contest where the winners are given contracts with networks. There are panels where industry professionals and decision makers speak to you directly and discuss the hows and who’s of this industry.
I personally attended the very first one and have seen this organization grow and make a great impact in getting new shows and talent exposed to the networks and companies attached to them.
They also cover digital platforms and now they are going into VR and Augmented Reality. I cannot say enough about Founder Terence Gray and his team. They are spot on and continue to be the light at the end of a tunnel in an industry that is ever changing and difficult to enter.
The NYTF will be October 24th to October 29th. To get your tickets to screening and other events go to http://www.nytvf.com
